About us
Our history
In September 2008 Aviva Investors became the trading name for a group of asset management businesses owned by Aviva plc under a single management structure and brand.
Australia
Aviva Investors Australia Limited began in 1994 as Portfolio Partners. In 1998 the business was sold to Norwich Union (now Aviva Australia). From 2002-2008 the business was part of the Morley Fund Management Group of Companies (the UK-based asset management arm of Aviva plc) and in September 2008 became part of the Aviva Investors global asset management group of companies.
Aviva Investors Australia manages a mixture of institutional and retail assets on behalf of its clients in the Australian equities and fixed income spaces.
France
Aviva Investors France SA was originally established as Aviva Gestion d'Actifs (Victoire Asset Management)) in 1968. Over time, the company has undergone restructuring and integration following acquisitions of the Aviva group. Today it is dedicated to the management of transferable securities, segregated investment portfolios and OPCVM (Organisme de Placement Collectif en Valeurs Mobilières) vehicles approved by the COB (Commission des opérations de bourse) (registration number 97-114).
Ireland
Aviva Investors was initially established in Ireland as Hibernian Investment Managers in 1990 as a stand-alone investment management entity within the Aviva Group Ireland plc, having previously been an investment management department within the Group. The Aviva Group Ireland plc itself is the Irish subsidiary of Aviva plc. In 2003 Hibernian Investment Managers became a wholly owned subsidiary of Morley Fund Management Ltd, and in September 2008 became part of the Aviva Investors global asset management group of companies.
Poland
Asset management activities of the Aviva group in Poland started in 1992 when its life insurance business was launched and first life fund was established. As the business grew, a specialised asset management unit, initially known as Commercial Union Investment Management (Poland) was established in 1998 to manage assets entrusted by sister CU Poland companies. In 1999, as Poland launched its pensions reform, a separate asset management team was established (as required by law) to manage pension fund assets.
CU Investment Management became Aviva Investors Poland in September 2008 and manages assets for Life, General Insurance and Mutual Funds companies.
The company is regulated by the Polish Financial Supervision Commission and is among the largest institutional investors in Poland’s financial markets.
Romania
Aviva Investors Romania was established in 1994 as Certinvest and has, over time, become the oldest asset management firm in the country. Since the start, Aviva Investors Romania’s dynamic and innovative approach has greatly contributed to the development of the Romanian capital market and devoted time and effort to educating the public in financial matters. For example, in 2004 it launched the first bond fund in the Romanian market. In 2007, Certinvest was acquired by Aviva Romania, becoming its local asset manager, and in September 2008, it became part of Aviva Investors global asset management group of companies.
UK
The roots of Aviva Investors’ asset management business in the UK can be traced back to 1971, and the formation of Geoffrey Morley & Partners, a provider of independent investment management services to pension funds. This business was acquired by Commercial Union, a UK-based insurance company, in 1990. The subsequent merger of Commercial Union and another large UK insurer, General Accident, led to the creation of CGU plc in 1998. This was followed by the further merger of CGU plc and Norwich Union plc on 30th May 2000, and ultimately the establishment of a successor company named Aviva plc (formerly CGNU plc). The asset management businesses of Morley Fund Management Ltd and Norwich Union Investment Management Ltd were merged in July 2000, under the name of Morley Fund Management Ltd and subsequently became Aviva Investors Global Services Limited in September 2008.
